SKU: boar bristle brush
The first hard step in ronghua is taming the silk threads. This brush is built for that step.
For anyone new to velvet flower work, combing and smoothing the silk is the first real challenge — tangled or uneven threads show up in every petal that follows. The right brush makes the difference between fighting the silk and working with it.
We chose this brush for three reasons: dense natural boar bristles that grip the threads without cutting them, a solid rosewood handle that sits comfortably in the hand, and a stiff feel that gives you steady, controlled strokes from the first pass.
Use it to smooth, separate and line up your silk threads before shaping, so the material is even and ready for the work ahead.

What you end up with
Smooth, evenly aligned silk threads — and a steady, comfortable tool to get them there.
The bristles are natural stiff boar bristles, and the handle is solid rosewood. Natural bristles grip silk threads better than synthetic ones.
It is 19 cm long overall, with an 8 cm bristle section and an 11 cm handle. The bristle width is 2.6 cm.
Stiff. The firm boar bristles give you control when combing and smoothing silk threads, so the threads line up evenly.
Yes. Combing silk is one of the first challenges in ronghua, and this brush is chosen specifically to make that step easier for new makers.
Keep the brush away from fire and water. Store it dry, and the bristles and rosewood handle will stay in good shape.

Ronghua velvet flower · China
I'm Hong. I make Chinese silk flowers by hand in Guang'an, Sichuan — Chanhua and Ronghua, the two crafts my grandmother taught me over six years.
She is eighty-nine now and has made these flowers since she was a girl. I left the craft for an office job in Guangzhou, missed the quiet of making something with my hands, and came back. Now I do this full time, and every piece in this shop is wound by me.
