Chanhua DIY Kit | Graduation Cap Decoration

**A complete chanhua kit to decorate one graduation cap.**

Chanhua (缠花) is a Chinese folk craft: dyed silk floss is wound, strand by strand, around a shaped copper-wire frame until a flower appears. It is three-dimensional and sculptural — closer to making a tiny silk sculpture than to sewing or embroidery.

A graduation cap is a flat 26 × 26 cm board, and this design covers it: hand-wound silk flowers in blue and white, with a pearl chain running along the edge. Because the whole surface is built from individually wound blooms, it takes 16 to 20 hours. Plan for three or four weeks of evenings before graduation day.

Everything you need is in the box, including the cap itself:

- 1 graduation cap (mortarboard, 26 × 26 cm)
- Blue and white dyed silk floss
- Paper templates for the petal shapes
- Craft glue and paint
- A pearl chain for the edge
- Adhesive backing sheets
- 1 brush and 1 spool of copper wire

You only need two things of your own: **a pair of scissors and a lighter** (the lighter seals the thread ends so the silk does not fray).
