Chanhua (缠花) is a Chinese folk craft: dyed silk floss is wound, strand by strand, around a shaped copper-wire frame until a flower appears. It is three-dimensional and sculptural — closer to making a tiny silk sculpture than to sewing or embroidery.

A trailing jasmine is a hanging design: the blooms fall along a curving branch, and each small flower is wound separately before it joins the main stem. That is why this is our longest and most demanding kit — 15 cm of branch, and more hours than any of our single-flower designs. Worn across a bun or down one side of an updo, the flowers move when you do.

All the craft materials you need to finish one hairpin are in the box:
